A Winter's Tale

It's winterfall
Read skies are gleaming
Seagulls are flying over
Swans are floating by
Smoking chimney tops
Am I dreaming?
Am I dreaming?
The nights draw in
There's a silky moon up in the sky
Children are fantasising
Grown-ups are standing by
What a super feeling
Am I dreaming?
Am I dreaming?

So quiet and peaceful
Tranquil and blissful
There's a kind of magic in the air
What a truly magnificent view
A breathtaking scene
With the dreams of the world
In the palm of your hand
A cosy fireside chat
A little this, a little that
Sound of merry laughter skipping by
Gentle rain beating on my face
What an extraordinary place!

It's all so beautiful
Like a landscape painting in the sky
Mountains are zooming higher
Little dogs scream and cry
My world is spinning and spinning and spinning
It's unbelievable
Sends me reeling
Am I dreaming?
Am I dreaming?
Oooh, it's bliss

Songwriters
BRIAN MAY, FREDDIE MERCURY, JOHN DEACON, ROGER TAYLOR

Your task this week is to write a poem about what winter means to you. You can use the poem above, the pictures below and your own ideas to inspire you. Think about what you can see, hear, smell, taste and touch in winter.

I'm looking forward to reading your poems!

  2. Winter is when the snow falls down.
    Icycles hang from the roof.
Near our house there is a pile of snow.
    The Earth sleeps in winter.
    Every thing is winter white.

  4. What Winter means to me:

Snow is falling here and there.
    You can see it everywhere.
    Roasting marshmallows by the fire.
Santa will give you what you desire.

    Winter, winter we love winter.
    Snowflakes falling from the sky.
Benches covered in snow that's icy.
    Going ice-skating's so much fun.
    Huge mountains covered in snow.

    Winter, winter we love winter.
Snowflake, snowflake we love snowflakes too.
Falling , falling, falling, falling, falling.
    Falling on my nose.
Drinking hot chocolate at the fire place.
In my warm, cosy, soft and nice chair.
Relaxing and sharing is so much fun.

    Winter, winter we love winter.
I can hear little birds chirping and robins flying around me .
    Can you hear them to?
I can smell roast dinners from peoples windows.
I can also feel snow falling from the sky.
I will taste some food in a minute.
    I'm so excited.

    Ginger bread, Short bread,
    Yummy! Queues up ahead!

  6. The Snowman

One must have a mind of winter
To regard the frost and the boughs
    Of the pine-trees crusted with snow;

And have been cold a long time
To behold the junipers shagged with ice,
The spruces rough in the distant glitter

Of the January sun; and not to think
Of any misery in the sound of the wind,
In the sound of a few leaves,

Which is the sound of the land
    Full of the same wind
That is blowing in the same bare place

For the listener, who listens in the snow
    And, nothing himself, beholds
Nothing that is not there and the nothing that is.

    dark sky's
    it's cold outside
    snow flaces are falling
    stars are glowing
    the smell of mince pie
    santas raindairs fly
    lots of trees
    and a cool breeze
    covred in snow
    the cold winds blow

    it's so beautiful
    and colorful
    it's so beautiful
    and colorful
    I love winter
and my tree shines like gliter.

  8. The chilly winter

A chilly winter is often really cold,
I could be playing outside with my jacket,
    Or i could roast marshmallows.

    Lots of trees without leaves,
    And children screaming outside,
I always stay inside to be warm.

Oh winter it is a great season,
But there are other seasons waiting to come,
So i hope winter will come again next time.

  9. A Beautiful Dream:
In winter it’s cold, snowy and white,
    It makes you feel happy.
You sometimes feel cosy when you eat
    The warmth.
    When you touch the snow,
    You see snowflakes falling down.
Mostly you could hear the children having
    Fun
I smell mince pies and Christmas objects
    Like a beautiful dream.
I feel it in my bones
    And it’s a nice feeling.
    You have snowball fights
But you do it all in December
    On Christmas Eve!

  10. Winter is coming
    Ice is booming
    Mice are cold
    And cheese is mold

    Pine-trees are icy white
    Sun is bright gleaming sight
    Ice on the road glitters
    Makes a funny sliding ride

    Lots of snow falling down
Have some coco hot and brown
Comfy cosy chair by the fire place
As cosy as a sheep's fleece

Day's short and night is long
But sadly we don't play ping pong
    Winter winter here you come
With frost and snow lots of fun
    Fire's burning in the pit
    Going out bit by bit

Night is peaceful with dreaming moonlight
Day is beautiful with grey shady light

Winter is fun with Christmas around
Ho Ho Ho Santa is coming with jingly sound

  11. Old Winter Lady

Chilling fresh air fills up my chest with wonder
We feel Old Winter Lady's presence
    It s everywhere...you see?
It s winter on the streets...
    It even smells like winter...

All nature sleeps under the pale grey sky.
For now the trees have left their coat,
Have changed it for a special one ,
    Of diamond glow.

Red collared robins gathered on a brunch,
House windows brightly lit and misted are shining in the dark.
Playful flakes of white are falling from the sky,
Crystal snow is squeaking under feet,
    It s winter time.
Tick Tack ,Tick Tack it s Christmas time!

The night is not night ..no more
    The velvety moon arises,
It shines ...it glows ...it s magical..
The uncalled Winter Lady has arrived,
With charming dance of joy .

Merry songs and cheerful colors red and green ,
Christmas tree and family ,makes my joy begin.
All is new, all is wonder,
All is magic, all is bliss,
All is silent, all is white,
    Old winter Lady is here!

Snowman, play and games on ice ,
    All children must enjoy!
Makes my heart pound and jump with joy.

I visit grandparents house each year,
Smell of oranges and Christmas tree,
Sizzling steak and sausages all on table just for me.

All it 's dream all it s a wish
Sun is shining all the time,
    Even Santa Clause arrives ,
Sharing long hoped gifts to each and every one.

One last thing ,Old Winter Lady!
New Year's knocking at the door
    Health and many other wishes,
Please bring loads to us all!

  12. Winter is finally here.

    Its winter,
    Its winter,
bright snow is falling to the ground.
    Hot bread getting baked.
Steam gently flouting in the air
from people making a hot meal.
    Is this real?
    Is this real?
The days are getting shorter and shorter,
Children are making snow mans and snow angels.
Millions of presents under one big Christmas tree in the middle of the city

Mostly every thing is covered in snow.
I know my mum and dad are making a big meal for all the guests.
I am getting ready for going to the shop
    to buy gifts.
    Is this real?
    Is this real?
Soon Santa will come and people will have even more.

    Winter winter
I do love winter Christmas is on its way with presents, parties and all those tasty mice pies.

    Winter oh winter
so foggy and cold, songs of jack frost nipping at our nose. Children dressed warm all snuggled up in soft blankets, Feeling the warmth of the roaring fire.

The sudden sweet smell of spiced hot chocolate, I can taste the all the sweet spices dancing around the inside of my mouth. mmmm winter oh winter.

    Trees are going down

    Winter has come

    Making lots of sound

    Winter has come
    People are skating
    Laughing all around

I fell happy, I feel peaceful
Where you can see the whole world,

  17. A dark and misty Winter

    A dark and misty Winter,
The food thats much much better,
    The warm and relaxing homes,
The snowmen in the giant gloom.
    What could be better?
    What could be better?

    A dark and misty Winter,
The snowballs that are much much softer,
The songs you can sing along,
as the bells go ding and dong.
    What could be better?
    What could be better?

    A dark and misty Winter,
The ice that sparkles like glitter,
The trees that sparkle and glimmer.
    What could be better?
