Remembrance and gratitude
We took some time to talk about Remembrance Day today and observed a two minute silence at 11am. We talked about the people that have been affected by war and why it is important to remember them. We heard about people who have been affected by past wars and the current conflict. Thank you for listening so intently to the story of my grandad, who was captured as a prisoner of war aged 22 and marched to Poland where he stayed for five years.
We talked about his lack of food, lack of warmth and lack of freedom: just some of the things that we often take for granted. I enjoyed our discussion about the things that we are grateful for - it is good to keep those things in mind and to remember how lucky we are to have them.
What are you grateful for? Please comment below to let us know........
Have a lovely, peaceful weekend :-)

DeleteRemembrance and Gratitude:
ReplyDeleteThere are little and big things in this world that some of us have and some don’t. We get used to them and we forget that we are very lucky.
I am appreciative that I have parents, to take care of me and love me. They are there when I need them the most. When I am sad or upset they cheer me up with ginormous kisses and hugs. They are there to protect me from danger. There are some children in the World who don’t have parents.
I am cheerful that I have siblings who are there to keep me company and always correct my mistakes. I am always happy around them.
I am thankful that I have grandparents to give me extra love, uncles, aunts and cousins to make us all feel a big family so that we can celebrate happy occasions.
I feel like I am absolutely blessed that I am getting an education and going to school safely. There are kids who have to pass through rivers, mountains and forests just to travel to school. This happens In Indonesia, China, India, Philippines and in some other countries.
I am grateful that I have a safe and strong home with water, electricity and heating to live in whilst some people have to live in houses made out of mud, grass and wood which are not that strong.
I am lucky that I have food. Some kids in Africa don’t have enough food to eat.
I am blissful that I have democracy in this country. Here we have our own choices. Some countries have dictatorship where they have to follow whatever the Ruler says.
I am delightful that I have friends to play with.
I feel privileged that there is no child labour in this country. Child labour exists in many countries for example, Eritrea, Somalia, Congo, Myanmar, Sudan, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Zimbabwe, Yemen, Burundi, Nigeria and many more.
These are some of the reasons that I am thankful for. I wish that all the children in the world can enjoy themselves and have a good and happy life.
