  1. First, we travelled by train to Richmond Station and walked a few minutes to the Synagogue. When we arrived at Richmond Synagogue we all sat on the floor in the entrance hall and listened as the Rabbi told us about what we would be doing. After that we all went into the synagogue and the Rabbi explained that each of our three classes would split up and learn separately.
First, our class went to go and taste some Jewish food with a nice lady and she told us about how the food is treated in the Jewish faith. She also told us about a man called Moses. She let us try the food and grape juice. We tasted the grape juice first and it was nice. Also, we tasted some Jewish plaited bread and it was very tasty too.

Next we went with another nice lady who told us all about Shabbat, which is a Jewish festival. Afterwards, she told us about the things you give and receive at Shabbat. Also, she let us try on a yarmulke and tallit. Later, she explained about the mezuzah and that Jews have to have a scroll on every door of their house.

Finally, we went with the Rabbi into the synagogue. He told us about the torah and very kindly showed us one of them. It was wrapped in silk, it had a silver breastplate, gold bells and a gold pointer. He read some out for us in Hebrew and translated it into English. Lastly, we went out of the synagogue and they kindly gave us a biscuit and squash. Then we travelled back to school by train. I enjoyed my trip to the synagogue.

  3. First, we walked to the train station.
Next, we took 2 trains to reach to Richmond synagogue.
Then, we went inside the synagogue and waited for a while.
After, we got split in 3 groups. Also, we went in different rooms.
Our first room was where we learnt about Shabbat. Shabbat starts on Friday evening and finishes on Saturday. All the family members sit around a big table. The eldest woman of the family or any adult man read the prayer and lights the candle. He or she puts wine in a glass and pass it on to all the grown up family members to take a sip of it and thank God for this. Children drink grape juice. All the family members eat Hannah bread served by eldest lady or man of the family. The lady in the Synagogue performed all the rituals in front of us served grape juice and Hannah bread to all of us.
After that, our group went to other room to learn about what people wore in the Synagogue. All men wore Yarmulke/Kippot/Tallit. Mostly women wore a scarf to cover their heads. The Yarmulke is a small round cap. Tallit is a long scarf with stripes often wore by men. Tallit symbolises blessings. All of us tried Yarmulke and Tallit. We even saw a Mezuzah outside Synagogue door. The Jewish lady told us that all the Jewish houses have Mezuzah on the main door of their houses. She said that all the rooms in a house have small Mezuzah on the door except for the toilets.
Then our group went to third room which is the main Synagogue prayer room to learn about the Torah. It’s a big room with benches to sit and a big platform to stand and read scroll. Towards the east side was a big curtain. We could see the big Torah behind the curtains. Torah is a long, big pouch, inside is the scroll. The scroll is written in Hebrew on leather made out of cow skin. Hebrew is the oldest Jewish language. Surprisingly, the man in the Synagogue read the Torah to us in Hebrew language. We even saw a small book form of Torah. He answered all our questions. He told us that main Torah is written without punctuation marks whereas book form of Torah has punctuations and English translation as well.
All of us came out in the garden on Synagogue and they served us biscuits and juice. We then went back to train station and took a train to reach back Hounslow. Finally, we walked towards school after getting down from train.

  4. We walked to the train station from school and got off at Richmond.

Then we walked to the Synagogue and went in to hear about the Jewish religion. We noticed that on each door there was a Mezuzah which is a tiny scroll.

Firstly, we heard about Shabbat, it is on a Saturday and it is the day of rest for the Jewish people. Then, we tried challah bread and grape juice which the Jewish people share with their families to celebrate. Before we tried the food the lady lit a candle and said a prayer in Hebrew over the food.

Next we heard about Jewish festivals and tried on a tallit and kippot. A tallit is like a big scarf. It somehow has about 613 tassels. A kippot is a tiny hat that men wear to keep their head covered.

Afterwards, we went into the main part of the Synagogue and heard about the Torah. The Torah are big scrolls and written on them in Hebrew is the Jewish bible. They were hidden behind a blue curtain and two doors. When the curtain was pulled back I was surprised at how big and shiny they were. The man chanted a bit of the Torah, it sounded a bit like singing.

Finally, we went back to school.

  5. My recount

In the morning, I walked to school as usual with my dad.
When I got there, we sat in our class and our class teacher took the register.
After that, we walked to the over ground train station where we caught the wrong train by accident. Hence, we got off at the next station and caught the right train to Richmond.
Eventually, after a 5-10 minute walk from Richmond train station we reached the synagogue.
When we got in, the priest gave a detailed introduction about a synagogue.
Next, we went with a lady who told us all about ‘Shabbat’ a Jewish celebration.
After that finished, another lady took us and told us about different Jewish celebrations, we even got to wear a tallit(shawl) and a kippot(cap)!
Then, the priest took us and told us about the Torah scrolls. He even showed us the Torah scrolls!
After he finished, we went out for biscuits and squash.
After that, we walked back to the train station and took a train back to Hounslow.
Finally, we walked back to school and had lunch in the shade on the field.

  6. Trip to Richmond Synagogue

First we had registered and then we were assigned groups. My partner wass Kirtana.
We had a little walk to the station and then got on to the train. We got off at Feltham and took another train to Richmond. After a short walk through Richmond high street we reached the Synagogue. Once inside we had to be very quite. Then we were divided into three groups. Our class group went to learn about Shabbat. The dinner table was set in the room. The kind lady explained that Shabbat starts from Friday evening and is celebrated till the end of Saturday. They have a special meal and nobody works that day. Adults drink red wine and children grape juice. We were given grape juice to taste and it was yummy. The lady beautifully sang the prayer about blessing the bread and wine. There are always two loafs of bread. If you are in a country like Iraq, you would have flat bread. The next day which is Saturday, Jews go to the Synagogue to pray and then spend the day relaxing with the family.

Next we went to the room were there was another lady who explained all about Jewish festivals like Hanuka and Passover. Hanuka is celebrated in December and Passover around Easter. She told us about Mezuzah which is found on the doors of Jewish homes. When you move to a new house, you are suppose to take it with you to the new house. If you do not take it is disrespecting god. The skull cap or hats that the Jewish people wear is called Kippat or Yarmulke. We got to try out a variety of Kippats. Some Kippats had football designs. Men ae suppose to wear it but some ladies also prefer to wear it.
In a Synagogue you also wear a Tallit. Tallit is a prayer shawl or scarf with patterns.
We had fun trying out all the Tallits. The ladies Tallit is smaller then the mens. The candle stand is called Menorah and it can have six to ten candles. After this interesting talks we went to the worship room. The Rabbi allowed us to open the doors, behind which there were huge scrolls called Torah. The design on the covering cloth was very glittery. He lifted the lightest scroll to show us. There were bells on the Torah, which he removed and placed in special holders. Torah is written in Hebrew language. Hebrew is read from right to left. The Rabbi informed us that there is no punctuation in Hebrew apart from paragraphs. The Rabbi sang a few verses from the Torah. While reading they don't touch the scroll instead they use a thin pointy hand, made of metal.
The scroll is made up of around fifty pieces of leather stitched together with thread made from cow gut.
Eventually we were enriched about the Jewish way of life, but we were starving. We were kindly offered some tasty biscuits and some squash. Finally, we headed back to school and had a lovely picnic on the field.

  7. The Richmond Synagogue Trip.

On the twenty-ninth of June 2018, I went to the Richmond synagogue. When I got to school, everyone was wearing high-visibility jackets. We went to our chosen tables and I was partnered with Darsh.
Later, we began our trip. We crossed the road while Darsh and I talked together. We walked to the station where we waited for the train to arrive. A few minutes later, the train had arrived. When we got on the train, Miss Davies had realised that we were on the wrong train so we got off at the next stop took another train. It took 5-6 stops to get to Richmond. Then we walked a few blocks up and got to the synagogue.
When we got to the synagogue, we were told who to follow. We went to the kitchen first. In the kitchen, the lady had told us about Shabbat and had sung two holy prayers to us. Then we drank grape juice and ate very sweet bread.

Then we went back in the entrance way. The woman told us about the mezuzah (A constant reminder of god.), that in a villain and hero story, whenever the villains name is mentioned, They would hiss and boo.

Then we went in the actual synagogue. The man in the synagogue told us about the torah scrolls and took the lightest scroll out. He read a section of it and then asked for question. Miss Davies asked if the torah scrolls were as big as a football pitch. The answer was yes. Finally, we had orange juice and cookies and went back to school.

  8. Our trip to Richmond synagogue.

Last week on a Friday, from school we walked as a group to Hounslow overground station. We then boarded a train travelling to Richmond and we got there in good time. From there, we had to walk for a few minutes to reach Richmond synagogue.

Whilst on the visit, we went to an area where you worship God. We discovered the Torah scroll, the holiest book in Judaism, which is written in Hebrew and kept there. Next, we went to the dining room, a place where the Jewish have Shabbat, a day of prayer on the 9th of June.

We experienced some grape juice instead of wine and with our grape juice, we had some delicious bread. We also wore a Kippah, small circular cap on our head. A Tallith, cloth to cover the head and upper part of our body.

I saw Mezuzahs, a small rectangular shaped box containing a scroll to remind you about the ten commandments, on each door except the toilet. The writing on the scroll was in Hebrew.

For a short time, we walked about and then it was time to leave.

We made our way to Richmond station and caught the overground train to Hounslow. Upon reaching Hounslow station, with haste, we walked to school and our waiting parents.

The journey back to school was pleasant and we were feeling
    satisfied!

That was our trip to Richmond synagogue.
